Nellie McClung was a motivational Canadian feminist. She fought for women’s rights. With 4 other activists, she had a powerful impact on Canada and it’s voting system. Nellie McClung was also one of the “Famous 5,” a group of female activists. In 1927, the five activists petitioned the Supreme Court to have women declared “qualified persons” who were eligible for public office as senators. Before Nellie McClung, women were not allowed to vote in Canada but she was influential in forcing the government to allow women to vote. Thank you
to Nellie McClung for recognizing that men and women should be treated equally.
