Elizabeth MacGill
MacGill was the first practicing female engineer in Canada and the world’s first female aircraft designer. Born in 1905 and remembered as the “Queen of the Hurricanes,” MacGill was in charge of Canada’s production of Hawker Hurricane fighter planes during the Second World War. She was president of the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs and co-authored the report of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women in Canada.
